CCC Certification Mark Usage Guidelines in China: What Should Be Noted When Molding or Printing the CCC Mark?
Products listed in the mandatory product certification catalog and sold in the Chinese market must bear the CCC certification mark. Correct use of this mark is not only a legal requirement but also a reflection of a company's compliant operation and market reputation. The CCC mark, which is directly affixed to the product itself or its smallest packaging using molding or printing methods, requires extra care due to its permanent and non-removable nature. The following are key points to note:
First, the designated standard size mark must be used. The CCC mark comes in standard sizes (two sizes) and modified sizes (such as printing and molding). When using molding or printing, proportionally enlarged or reduced modified sizes are permitted, but the mark image must be clearly legible, and the minimum height must not be less than 5 mm. The basic pattern of the mark consists of three "C"s and must be strictly reproduced according to the style published by the Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People's Republic of China. No unauthorized modifications to the line proportions, font, or outer frame dimensions are allowed.
Second, the color of the mark must comply with regulations. Generally, a white background with a black image should be used. If the color of the product itself or its packaging makes the black mark unclear or impossible to display, other colors with high black-and-white contrast are permitted, provided they do not compromise the overall image and recognizability of the mark. Rainbow colors, reflective colors, and other colors that may affect seriousness and recognizability are strictly prohibited.
Third, the location of the mark is crucial. Molded or printed CCC marks should be affixed to a location on the product itself that is easily visible and not easily worn, such as a prominent position on the product's nameplate or outer casing. For small products or those that cannot be directly molded/printed, the mark can be affixed to the smallest unit of packaging. The mark should be clear, secure, and ensure its continued presence throughout the product's expected lifespan, without easily detaching or becoming blurred. A common misconception is placing the mark on removable parts, which does not meet the core requirement of "permanent affixing."
Fourth, ensure the completeness of the mark information. For molded or printed marks, while the certification body code may be omitted, the mark itself must be complete. Simultaneously, companies should clearly label the factory code (i.e., the CCC certification certificate number corresponding to the manufacturing plant) near the mark or on the product nameplate, as per regulations. This is crucial for product traceability and is indispensable.
Fifth, strictly prohibit misuse and abuse. Products without CCC certification are absolutely prohibited from bearing this mark. Certified products must not use marks with specifications or colors that do not comply with regulations, nor may they be used on product models or series that are inconsistent with the certification scope. The mark cannot be used in advertisements, brochures, or other occasions that may mislead consumers into believing that the entire company or uncertified products have been certified.
Ignoring these details can have serious consequences. Improper use of the CCC mark can result in penalties and orders for rectification from market regulators, or even suspension or revocation of the certificate, and product recalls, severely impacting market sales and corporate reputation.
Therefore, it is recommended that companies carefully review the latest official documents issued by the Certification and Accreditation Administration of China (CNCA), such as the "Requirements for the Management of Compulsory Product Certification Marks," before deciding to use molding or printing methods, or communicate and confirm with certification bodies or professional consultants in advance when designing the mark. Establish an internal audit process to rigorously verify samples with molded or printed CCC marks to ensure that their specifications, colors, positions, and associated information fully comply with regulations. The compliant use of the CCC mark is the final crucial step in ensuring that a product's "passport" to the Chinese market is effectively verified, and it deserves sufficient attention and meticulous management from every relevant company.
