The EU REACH SVHC Candidate List (ECHA) was updated to 253 items on February 4, 2026.

n-hexane (CAS 110-54-3) and 4,4'-[2,2,2-trifluoro-1-(trifluoromethyl)ethylidene]bisphenol (BPAF) and its salts were added. Companies are required to fulfill their information transmission and SCIP notification obligations.

On February 4, 2026, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) officially added n-hexane and 4,4'-[2,2,2-trifluoro-1-(trifluoromethyl)ethylidene]bisphenol (BPAF) and its salts to the REACH SVHC candidate list. This brings the total number of SVHCs on the list to 253. This update will directly impact manufacturers and supply chain companies exporting articles containing these substances to the EU.

Core Corporate Compliance Obligations

REACH Regulations Obligations (EC No 1907/2006)

Information Transmission Obligation (Article 33): If the mass concentration of any SVHC in an article is > 0.1% (w/w), the supplier must provide safety usage information (including substance name, risk warning, and protective measures) within 15 days of receiving a request from a downstream user/consumer.

ECHA Notification Obligation (Article 7): In addition to meeting the requirement of "concentration > 0.1% (w/w)," if the annual EU exposure to the SVHC in the article (including imports exported to the EU) is > 1 tonne, the company must submit a notification to ECHA within 6 months of the substance being added to the SVHC list (including product category, tonnage, intended use, and exposure scenario).

Obligations under the Waste Framework Directive (WFD, Directive 2008/98/EC):

SCIP Notification Obligation (Annex XIV): If the mass concentration of any SVHC in an article is > 0.1% (w/w), regardless of the annual release volume, the company must complete a notification in the ECHA SCIP database before placing the article on the EU market (including product identification, substance CAS number, concentration range, and waste management recommendations).

Other Updates:

Bisphenol F (BPF, CAS 115-25-3): The SVHC assessment application submitted concurrently has been withdrawn by ECHA because "the existing toxicological data are insufficient to demonstrate that it meets the reproductive toxicity criteria of REACH Clause 57(c)". It will not be included in the list for the time being.

Resorcinol (CAS 108-46-3): Since June 2021, when it was proposed by the EU member state (Germany) to be included in the SVHC list, it is currently in the ECHA risk assessment stage due to the need for "supplementary target organ toxicity data for long-term exposure". It is expected that the data review will be completed and the public consultation will be launched in Q4 2026. Companies can pay attention to the "SVHC review progress" on the ECHA website.
