China's children's toy safety standards have undergone a major upgrade.

On October 5, 2025, the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of China jointly released GB 6675.2-2025, "Toy Safety Part 2: Mechanical and Physical Properties." This standard will officially come into effect on November 1, 2026, fully replacing GB 6675.2-2014 and GB 6675.12-2014, setting a new benchmark for toy safety for children under 14 years old and strengthening the safety defense line for mechanical and physical properties.

This standard update deeply aligns with the ISO 8124-1:2022 international standard, incorporates new trends in the domestic toy industry, and focuses on high-frequency risks during children's use, achieving three core breakthroughs:

More comprehensive coverage: It adds requirements for 16 new product categories, including flying toys, yo-yos, and simulated food toys, adapting to new scenarios such as smart toys and environmentally friendly materials;

Stricter safety requirements: It refines and quantifies indicators to address risks such as accidental ingestion of magnets and injuries from projectiles, enhancing the operability of testing methods;

A more streamlined standard system: It integrates the original toy scooter standard GB 6675.12-2014, unifying mechanical and physical performance requirements and reducing compliance costs for enterprises.

1. New Product and Scenarios Adapted

For popular products such as flying toys, remote-controlled drones, and yo-yos, new specific technical requirements have been added: Flying toys must be equipped with a protective design for rotating blades, and the original length of the yo-yo tether must not exceed 370mm to effectively avoid the risks of entanglement and impact; for food-simulating toys, it is clarified that their shape and color should not mislead children into ingesting them, reducing the risk of choking from the source.

2. Enhanced Safety Requirements for High-Risk Components

Magnets: Clear limits have been set for the magnetic flux index of detachable magnets. Multiple tests, including tensile, impact, and immersion tests, have been conducted to prevent children from accidentally swallowing them and causing intestinal damage.

Projectile Toys: The design requirements for the tip of projectiles have been optimized. Suction cup projectiles must be at least 57mm long, and a range test has been added to prevent long-distance injuries.

Ropes and Straps: The length limits for entangleable ropes have been refined. The free end length of the rope in pull toys should not exceed 800mm. For cables in toys exceeding 800mm in length, warnings should be added, and neck straps must have a detachable structure.

3. Optimized Testing Methods and Age Classification

More Precise Age Classification: Differentiated requirements have been established for three age groups: 0-18 months, 18-36 months, and 36-96 months. Safety thresholds for small parts and sharp edges in toys for younger children are more stringent.

More Standardized Testing Procedures: New tests have been added, including chin indentation testing and dynamic strength testing for toy scooters. Test equipment parameters and operating procedures have been clearly defined, enhancing the credibility of the results.

GB 6675.2-2025 "Toy Safety Part 2: Mechanical and Physical Properties" will officially come into effect on November 1, 2026. Products manufactured or imported according to the old standard before the implementation date must comply with the new standard starting 13 months after implementation. Article 25 of the Standardization Law stipulates that products and services that do not comply with mandatory standards may not be produced, sold, imported, or provided. Enterprises are advised to adjust raw materials, product design, and production processes in a timely manner, and optimize product design (such as magnet selection and catapult mechanism modification) to ensure that products comply with this mandatory national standard. Businesses need to keep up with the standards and requirements in a timely manner and work together to create a safe and secure play environment for children.
