Saudi Arabia Adjusts Implementation Timeline for Unified Charging Interface Regulations, Effective May 2026
Recently, Saudi Arabia adjusted the implementation timeline for its standardized charging interface requirements for electronic devices. The mandatory Type-C interface requirement, originally scheduled to take effect in January 2026, has been postponed to May 1st of the same year.
This adjustment involves two key standards: SASO IEC 62680-1-2:2023 and SASO IEC 62680-1-3:2023. From May 2026, the Saudi market will implement strict access restrictions on products that do not comply with these standards.
Products that do not meet the standards will not be able to obtain the conformity certificates required for market access.
Previously issued certificates will not be valid for applying for new shipment permits.
The new regulations have a wide scope, covering the following common electronic product categories:
Mobile phones, tablets, e-readers
Digital cameras, portable gaming devices
Various audio devices (such as headphones, in-ear headphones, portable speakers)
Computer peripherals (keyboards, mice)
Portable navigation devices, wireless routers, etc.
