 ANATEL Mandatory Certification Categories

ANATEL certification in Brazil is for telecommunications products. All telecommunications products and accessories must obtain ANATEL certification to be legally commercialized and used in Brazil.

ANATEL certification is divided into mandatory and voluntary certifications. The approval process is the same for products both domestically and internationally. If mandatory certification is required, the product's test results and reports must be consistent with the rules and regulations adopted by ANATEL. An authorization certificate issued by ANATEL is required before the product can be put into use.

◆ Type I certificates are valid until their cancellation; certificates for the other two types are valid for two years.

ANATEL Mandatory Certification Categories: Three types of telecommunications equipment require mandatory certification:

Type I:

◆ Terminal equipment connected to the Fixed Switched Telephone Service (FSTS) network via endpoints;

◆ Equipment connecting a private telecommunications network to the FSTS network;

◆ Equipment connecting to the FSTS network for the purpose of providing value-added services.

Type I: Includes: mobile phones, satellite phones, VoIP phones, mobile phone batteries, mobile phone charging cables, telephone signal lines, modems.

Type II: ◆ Any equipment using radio not covered by Type I, such as low-voltage devices, unlicensed equipment, and antennas.

Includes: television and radio antennas, receivers, transmitters, wireless network equipment, radio frequency automation equipment.

Type III: ◆ Any equipment regulated by Anatel's rules and regulations not covered by Type I or II.

Includes fiber optic cables, cable connectors, and mobile network signal transmitters.

*Note: Certificate validity period: Type I 2 years, Type II 2 years, Type III 3 years.
