 Introduction to PSE Certification in Japan



PSE certification is a mandatory safety certification in Japan, used to prove that motor and electronic products have passed safety standard tests under the Japanese Electrical and Material Safety Law (DENAN Law) or international IEC standards. According to Japan's DENTORL Law (Electrical Appliance and Material Control Law), 498 products entering the Japanese market must pass safety certification. Among them, 165 A-class products should obtain the diamond shaped PSE logo, and 333 B-class products should obtain the circular PSE logo.


Specific electrical products must be inspected by a third-party certification agency authorized by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry for product and factory testing equipment, and a PSE certification certificate must be issued with a validity period of 3 to 7 years, and the PSE diamond logo must be affixed to the product. Non specific electrical products need to prove their compliance through self inspection and declaration, and affix the PSE circular mark on the product.

Scope of PSE certified products


PSE diamond: wires, wiring appliances, current limiters, transformers, stabilizers, electric heating appliances, electric power application machinery, AC electrical machinery, portable generators, other AC machinery, wire conduits, small AC motors, light sources and light source application machinery, batteries, etc. It belongs to the product scope specified in the Specific Electrical Appliance Safety Law, such as 165 products including DC power supply devices, switches and sockets, electric water heaters, power cords and plugs, and other household appliance transformers (AC-AC power products).

PSE Circular: Products outside the scope of specific electrical product safety laws, such as electric blankets, electric steamers, electric hair permers, electric ovens, microwave ovens, hair humidifiers, refrigerators, electric mixers, electric egg boilers, electric insulated basins, hair dryers, electric humidifiers, projectors, washing machines, incandescent bulbs, fluorescent lamps, table lamps, decorative lights, advertising lights, lithium batteries, and all 333 products such as LED bulbs and LED lighting fixtures.
