What is Japan's METI Registration?

 I. What is Japan's METI Registration?

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan publishes detailed information on this method, which is formulated by the Information Economy Division of the Commerce and Information Policy Bureau.

II. Which Products Require METI Registration?

PSE certification is a mandatory safety certification in Japan, used to prove that electrical and electronic products have passed the safety standard tests of the Japanese Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law (DENAN Law) or international IEC standards. Japan's DENTORL Law (Electrical Appliance and Material Control Law) stipulates that 457 types of products must pass PSE safety certification to enter the Japanese market. Among them, 116 Class A products should obtain the diamond-shaped PSE mark, and 341 Class B products should obtain the circular PSE mark. Regulations require Japanese buyers to register with METI within one month of purchasing the goods and must affix the buyer's name or ID to the product for future supervision and management during the product sales process.

III. Japan METI Registration Process

1. Notification of Business: This is essentially a declaration from the Japanese importer, including manufacturer information, product information, and the signing date.

2. Approval Certificate issued by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The importer needs to submit a PSE (Product Safety and Engineering Certificate) to METI for registration to obtain this approval certificate.

3. Japanese buyers must register with METI within one month of purchasing the goods. Only Japanese trading companies registered in Japan can apply for METI registration.

IV. Where to Do Japan METI Registration

METI registration is divided into two types:

1. For those with importer qualifications

2. For those without importer qualifications (our laboratory provides Japanese importer qualification rental services)

The prices and risks differ between the two types!

V. How Long is the Application Process?

The initial application only takes one week. The best approach is to apply early for early review and product launch.
