Mexico NOM Certification Process

 Mexico NOM Certification Process

A NOM certificate is a prerequisite for market access in Mexico. Most products require a NOM certificate for customs clearance and to circulate and be sold in the market. It's comparable to CE certification in Europe or 3C certification in China.

What is NOM Certification? NOM stands for Normas Oficiales Mexicanas. The NOM mark is a mandatory safety mark in Mexico, indicating that a product complies with relevant NOM standards. The NOM mark applies to most products, including telecommunications and information technology equipment, household electrical appliances, lighting fixtures, and other products with potential health and safety hazards. Whether manufactured in Mexico or imported, products must comply with relevant NOM standards and product labeling regulations. Does my product need NOM certification? Products requiring mandatory NOM certification are generally electronic and electrical products operating on AC or DC voltages exceeding 24V. It primarily applies to product safety, energy and thermal effects, installation, health, and agriculture. The following products must obtain NOM certification to be allowed to enter the Mexican market: 1. Electronic or electrical products for home, office, and factory use; 2. Computer local area network equipment; 3. Lighting fixtures; 4. Tires, toys, and school supplies; 5. Medical devices; 6. Wired and wireless communication products, such as wired telephones and cordless telephones; 7. Products powered by electricity, propane, natural gas, or batteries.
