Charger CB certification IEC61558 standard CB mark

📄  What is CB certification for mobile phone chargers?

CB certification is a global mutual recognition system established by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IECEE). Simply put, it is like an "international passport" for electrical products.

Core function: Obtain a globally recognized CB testing report and certificate through a single test, thereby helping manufacturers simplify the process of obtaining safety certifications in different countries.

Scope of application: Suitable for mobile phone chargers, USB fast charging devices, wireless charging docks, laptop power adapters, etc.

Coverage countries: Currently, more than 50 countries worldwide (including EU countries, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Saudi Arabia and other major exporting countries of Chinese electromechanical products) have recognized the CB system.

📈  The benefits of obtaining CB certification

One test, global mutual recognition: This is the biggest advantage of CB certification. With a CB report and certificate, you can directly apply for conversion to national certifications of other member states (such as EU CE, US UL, South Korea KC, Saudi Arabia SASO, China CCC, etc.) without having to repeat the full set of tests in every country.

Significant cost and cycle savings: Due to the elimination of a large number of repeated tests, the cost of applying for transfer certification can be reduced by 30% -70%, and the certification cycle can also be shortened by 30% -50%.

Breaking down international trade barriers: CB certification is based on a unified IEC international standard, which can effectively reduce trade barriers caused by differences in national standards and enhance the recognition and competitiveness of products in the international market.

No factory inspection: CB certification only focuses on the testing of the product itself, without the need for tedious factory inspections, greatly simplifying the certification process.

📏  Which part is specifically applicable?

IEC 61558 is a series of standards, and mobile phone chargers typically need to comply with the following combinations:

IEC 61558-1 General Requirements

This is the basic safety standard for all power products, covering general requirements such as anti electric shock protection, insulation resistance, withstand voltage testing, temperature rise testing, mechanical strength, etc.

IEC 61558-2-16 "Special Requirements for Battery Chargers"

This is a supplementary standard specifically designed for battery chargers. If your product is specifically designed for charging lithium batteries, lead-acid batteries, etc. (which the vast majority of mobile phone chargers comply with), it must meet this requirement. It adds special testing items such as charging control, overcharge protection, and battery reverse connection protection.

📝  Processing procedures and required documents

Applying for CB certification usually takes 3-6 weeks, and the specific process is as follows:

Choose a laboratory: Find a qualified third-party testing institution.

Submit application and materials: Fill out the English application form and submit complete product technical information (see the list below for details).

Sending samples: Typically, 3-5 complete production prototypes (including casing, cables, etc.) need to be sent to the laboratory.

Product testing

Report review and certification: After passing the test, the laboratory issues a CB test report and submits it to the institution for issuing a CB certificate.

List of required documents:

Basic document: CB Test Certificate Application Form filled out in English.

Technical drawings: circuit schematic diagram, PCB layout diagram (with safety distance marked).

Product Description: English product manual, product specification sheet (including input/output voltage/current, power, etc.).

Key components: List of key components (CDF/BOM table), as well as specifications for key components such as transformers, inductors, and casings (if these components have already been UL/VDE/CB certified, please provide the certificate number to avoid repeated testing and save costs).

Other information: product nameplate diagram, photos of product appearance and internal structure, trademark declaration (if any).
