New EU Toy Regulation 2025! CE-EN71 Certification Update 🚨

At the end of February 2025, the EU toy CE-EN71 certification testing standard was updated!

The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) has released three new standards involving the testing of formamide, flame retardants, and preservatives. Parents exporting toys to the EU, beware!

🌟 Three new standards:

1️⃣ EN71-15:2025: It tests the formamide content in foam toy materials, with a limit of 200mg/kg.

2️⃣ EN71-16:2025: Testing for chlorinated phosphorus flame retardants (TCEP, TCPP, TDCP) in materials.

3️⃣ EN71-17:2025: Testing for isothiazolinone preservatives (MIT, CIT, BIT) in water-based materials.

📅 Implementation time:

By the end of August 2025, all member states are required to replace conflicting national standards.

The new standard is expected to become the harmonized standard for the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC after its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU).

🎯 Scope of application:

Toys for children under 36 months.

Other toys intended to be placed in the mouth.

⚠️ Important reminder:

Foam materials with a formamide content exceeding 200mg/kg will be subject to emission restrictions!

Toy companies exporting to the EU need to adjust their products in advance to ensure compliance!

💡 Suggestion:

Update test reports promptly to avoid product rejection!

Seek assistance from a professional organization to ensure a smooth certification process!
